ABSTRACT
Percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty has become the most used therapeutic method in many centers for the treatment of rheumatic mitral stenosis. Traditionally, a vein and a femoral artery have been used as a vascular access site. On the way to reduce vascular complications and the procedure we decided to use a vein and artery of the upper limb, in addition to the femoral vein to perform the procedure. In this sense, we conducted a case study in 3 patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis and indication of VMP, with the aim of evaluating the use of venous and arterial access of the upper limb in the immediate and intrahospitable results of percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty. In all 3 cases, the procedure was successful, without vascular complications despite 2 of them being treated with oral anticoagulants. This technique can be an alternative to the one traditionally used.
