Treatment of oral deforming habits in children of 4 to 13 years using auriculotherapy

ABSTRACT
Background: the auriculotherapy is an effective method for the treatment of oral deforming habits that affect mainly the infantile and adolescent population. Objective: to determine the therapeutic effectiveness of the auriculotherapy in the treatment of the oral deforming habits in children from 5 to 13 years assisted in the Ormani Arenado clinic in Pinar del Río, from October 2015 to November 2016. Methods: a prospective, longitudinal and descriptive research was conducted. The universe was composed by 96 children between 5 and 13 years of age to oral deforming habits that attended consultation in Ormani Arenado clinic in the analyzed period. Results: the most affected was the 4 to 5 age group with 45 children (47,9 %). The most frequent oral deforming habits were the digital suction, 69 children (71,8 %) and onicophagia in 7 children (58,3 %) predominating both in feminine sex. From 70 patients who eliminated the habit, 63 for 90 % had a positive familiar influence. Conclusions: the auriculotherapy was highly effective in the elimination of oral deforming habits in the studied children.
