ABSTRACT
We present two cases of children receiving prolonged home ventilation, a girl with Werdning-Hoffman disease and a boy with Morquio's disease, in order to demonstrate the importance of nursing care in the survival of patients with prolonged home ventilation, which have had a long period of hospitalization in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with prolonged artificial ventilation as a basic therapy, both currently at home. A summary of the disease is made, and the novel program of home ventilation shows the quality of life from the biopsychosocial point of view of the beneficiary families and the expected impact with it. It is a challenge for the primary health care and for the personnel in formation to deepen knowledge in this technology that was previously limited to the secondary level of health.
