Preventive care and health promotion by postgraduate doctors of Family and Community Medicine in the first care level in Chimborazo

ABSTRACT
Foundation: The postgraduate specialty in Family and Community Medicine includes medical assistance provision in health service units of Ecuador. It is necessary to know how these doctors assume these activities and put them into practice in the communities they serve during the training period.Objective: to characterize preventive care and health promotion developed by postgraduate doctors of Family and Community Medicine in the first care level.
Methods: a descriptive study was conducted, with 29 physicians who studied the postgraduate course of Family and Community Medicine in the province of Chimborazo, Ecuador, from 2014 to 2015. The services provided were analyzed in terms of type, age groups of patients, scenarios and causes. The data used was taken from the automated daily consultation record and ambulatory care.
Results: preventive care and health promotion prevailed, predominantly the first care in 2014 and the subsequent in 2015. The 20 to 64 years age group contributed the highest percentage of patients. The subsequent preventive type was increased in all age groups. Home was the most it’s most frequent scenario and general health control the most observed cause.
Conclusion: doctors of the postgraduate course in Family and Community Medicine favourably implement preventive and promotion health care in the first level.
