ABSTRACT
Objective: To analyze the agents identified by molecular studies of naso-oropharyngeal secretions in children with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and the therapeutic actions.
Material and methods: Patients without co-morbidities between 1m to 16y with bronchopneumonia, lobar pneumonia, interstitial pneumonia or complicated pneumonia. With or without rapid test for influenza and RSV and/or PCR viral and/or bacterial. Treatment and changes to some identification was analyzed.
Results: 187 patients (94 women), 94 (50.2%) bronchopneumonia, 90 (48.1%) lobar pneumonia two interstitial pneumonia and complicated with pleural effusion. A 107 (57.3%) underwent a molecular test. 80/107 (74.7%) with identification of at least one agent), in 56/80 (70%) single virus, in 18/80 (22.5%) virus and bacteria, and 6 (7.5%) only bacteria. In 26/80 (32.5%) had some modification to treatment.
Conclusions: When looking for molecular identification of an infectious agent in CAP, this was high (≈75%), with predominance of virus alone or in co-infection; but with low impact on therapeutic decisions.
