ABSTRACT
Introduction: The operative one is the most common practice in the dental clinics and the most used restoration materials are the resins and the amalgam. It is important to know its characteristics and indications to be able to use them in an appropriate way in each clinical situation. Objective: To determine the influence factors in the failure of the restorations with resin and amalgam in the patients treated in the consult office of the Villa Clara Dental Faculty in the 2015. Material and Methods: An observational descriptive and cross-sectional study between January and March of 2016 was performed. A non-probabilistic intentional sample was obtained by approaches. 105 clinical histories were revised and it was used as method the documental revision and as instrument a form elaborated to the effect. The studied variables were described. Results: 844 obturations (526 of amalgam and 318 of resin) were done. Prevailed the faulty buccal hygiene that was related with the biggest number of carried out restorations and the compound restorations. 279 restorations failed (33.1%). The failure was related statistically with the obturation material, the age, the sex in the case of the amalgam, the restoration type and the faulty buccal faulty. Conclusions: The successful restorations with both materials overcame those that failed that were cavity relapse predominantly.
