Family health in older adults who live in La Julia popular Council, in Batabanó municipality

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Studies about the third age are of great importance due to the population aging all over the world, and the consequences and stigmata associated to it, which influence on family health and older adults’ quality of life. Objective: Determine the development of family health in older adults who live in La Julia Popular Council, in Batabanó municipality. Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative-qualitative descriptive study was carried out from September, 2014 through March, 2015. The universe was 95 older adults and the sample was composed of 30 of them. Empirical methods were used (FF-SIL Test and the Risk Family Characteristic Inventory). Descriptive and inferential tools were used as part of the statistical analysis Results: Family functionality prevailed (60 %), the predominant risk family characteristics were: senescence at home (100%), low educational level (90%) and nutritional problems (73, 3%). Conclusions: Most of the older adults’ families have health problems at expenses of a chain reaction state.
