ABSTRACT
Among the key groups for the prevention of HIV, trans population has been the least studied, and therefore the least assisted in a differentiated way according to its specific particularities. The main objectives of this paper are an approach to the universe of Cuban trans people, and an identification of some general features of this group. It also aims to design and implement a tool allowing to know the attitudes of the Cuban population toward these persons. Material and methods. To achieve these objectives, a methodology was designed, taking into account the 2013 Survey of the Indicators for the Prevention of HIV Infection, which allowed to identify them during and before the interview, using statistic-mathematic calculations, and obtain an approach to their universe and some general features of this group. At the same time, a set of questions was designed and included as a module in the survey, allowing, through the combination of qualitative and quantitave methodology and the development of statistical techniques of factor analysis and K-means, to classify the population according to levels of discriminatory attitudes toward trans persons. Outcome. An estimation of the universe of the trans persons in Cuba was achieved, and a set of features allowing a social representation of them was identified. Besides, a tool was created and validated to diagnose the most frequent discriminatory attitudes against trans persons in everyday social life in Cuba, and to classify the population according to levels of discriminatory attitudes. Conclusions. It is possible to have a baseline of the universe and profile of trans people in Cuba, as well as a validated tool, applicable in Cuba and abroad, making possible to study discriminatory attitudes in a specific population, to focus on future actions, and to evaluate tendencies.
