ABSTRACT
Violence is indeed a matter of human rights, and understood as such its impact reaches different spaces of people’s life. Most classifications take a reference from elements like: an individual or group of victims, characteristics of the milieu/context where it is done, characteristics of actions or omissions that constitute violence, as well as the right that is violated. Objectives. Determining victim-generating factors in LGBTI people, and describing different blows to the rights of these people. The sample was completed by 106 persons, and a survey was carried out. Results. Most lesbian and bisexual women (8) have been victims of violence associated with their sexual orientation; most gay men surveyed (14) have declared that they have been victims of violence, and 11 of them have assured that it was due to their sexual orientation. Moreover, most trans people surveyed (63) have declared to have been victims of violence, and 43 of them assured that those violent acts were motivated by their gender identity. Conclusions. The elements revealed in this exploratory study about some problems associated with violence towards people based on their sexual orientation and gender identity and fed with other deeper problems, allow to orientate policy decision-making. The characteristics of the transformations adopted at a legislative level should respond, at least, to the solution of identified main problems regarding this kind of violence.
