ABSTRACT
Nowadays there is an earlier pubertal development in adolescents, stimulating early sexual intercourses that, together with the poor sexual education, expose them to conceive unwanted pregnancies. This process means to test the coping resources of the future mother. Purpose of the study. Characterizing the coping and perception of sexual education in pregnant adolescents in the municipality of Bejucal. Material and methods. A descriptive, transverse study with a methodological mixed approach was done from January to June 2015. In a sample of 24 pregnant adolescents, only 17 individuals were intentionally selected. The Adolescent Coping Scale, validated in Cuba, and a semi-structured interview were applied, as well as descriptive statistics (percentages and means).Results. The strategies of copingknown as To Worry, To Have Illusions and Self-Blaming predominated. The style of unproductive coping was identified with a greater use. Perception of a comprehensive sexual education was associated with strategies like focusing on solving the problem, investing in intimate friends and searching for relaxing entertainment, while the perceived poor sexual education was related to strategies like self-blaming, looking for pertinence, and spiritual support. Sexual education was perceived as poor (70.5%) and comprehensive (29.4%). Conclusions. Pregnant adolescents were characterized by a consistent unproductive coping style, with the use of evasive strategies and the perception of a poor sexual education. Differences in the relation between coping strategies and perception of sexual education were identified.
