ABSTRACT
Introduction: as population aging is a visible phenomenon in societies, of which Cuba currently shows high rates, it is necessary to internalize how to satisfy economically and socially the elderly that’s why it is necessary to know their way of living, acting and latent basic needs, also taking into account the place of residence of these people because of the differences in socioeconomic development that there is in Cuba. In Manzanillo there is insufficient knowledge of the current socio-demographic situation of the elderly with diseases that complicate their survival, such as Parkinson's, and studies such as this provide important results for making decisions in health policy. Objective: to characterize the socio-economic conditions and personal satisfaction of life in Parkinson's patients in Manzanillo during 2015. Method: a transversal descriptive observational study was carried out. The population under study was constituted by all the elderly people who attended the neurology clinic of the Hospital with the diagnosis of Parkinson's and live in Manzanillo, randomly selecting 30 patients to visit them at home and interview them. Results: 93.3% of patients with an income between 200 and 270 pesos have low income, 43.3% express that they feel emotionally affected by the illness or death of close relatives and 33.3% also claim the separation or distance of children and / or grandchildren. Conclusions: The greatest dissatisfaction is the means of transportation to get to a hospital, in addition to the economic situation, footwear and food.
