ABSTRACT
Introduction. Hepatitis C is a major public health problem worldwide. Be personal to the area of health is considered a risk factor for
acquiring this viral infection as accidental punctures and splashes during extractions or surgery with blood infected with Hepatitis C
virus (HCV) could infect the dental surgeon.
Material and methods. An observational, prospective and transversal designed to detect
antibodies against HCV graduates of the Faculty of Dentistry. The inclusion criteria in selecting the sample were graduates who have
been exposed to any risk factors. The sample consisted of 70 people. Rapid tests were applied RAPID ANTI-HCV TEST participants
who authorized its completion.
Results. In all applied tests, none was reactive. The most frequent risk factor was being worker health
area, since all graduates admitted into direct contact with blood after suffering accidental punctures by not properly follow the rules of
basic protection. A total prevalence for hepatitis C was zero percent, the same as some similar work done in other states is determined.
Conclusion. The most frequent risk factor was accidental needle puncture already used in patients during dental surgery.
