ABSTRACT
Introduction. The periapical surgery is a minor oral surgery procedure that aims to strippage injuries or foreign bodies from the periapical
region in anterior and posterior dental organs, in order to maintain functional one dental organ and associated endodontic treatment allows
preserve functional in the oral cavity.
Objective. Check the efficiency of biomaterials such as Emdogain (enamel matrix derived), Nukbone
(bovine hydroxyapatite) and Fibroquel (polyvinyl pyrrolidone collagen sponge) in the healing and repair of the surgical area by clinical
evaluation and radiographic check is made.
Materials and methods. A female patient of 45 years old with the upper right first premolar with
periapical radiolucent area previously treated with endodontic biomaterials selected and Emdogain (enamel matrix -derived), Nukbone (bovine
hydroxyapatite) and Fibroquel (polyvinylpyrrolidone collagen sponge) were used in periapical bone defect.
Results. Two weeks scarring soft
tissue was observed without evidence of injury in the apical region, radiographically periapical repair region is evidenced by the presence of
a radiopaque area at 12 weeks.
Conclusion. The use of various biomaterials and the combination of these in the repair of periapical defects,
allows dental organs functionally maintained in oral cavity with lower likelihood of recurrence of injury.
