ABSTRACT
Objectives: For more than twenty years, the construction sites represent the labor spaces that verify the highest relative incidence of work accidents in Argentina, particularly in the Metropolitan Area of ?? Buenos Aires. This paper aims to analyze how the hegemonic mandates of masculinity are involved in the overexposure to occupational hazards that characterize the sector. Material and method: The research is based on an ethnographic approach to 97 construction sites between 2006 and 2015. Results: There are social representations about manhood that in the construction industry are expressed in reckless attitudes towards risks. Conclusions: There is a need for public programs aimed at challenging the gender ideals that lead men to unnecessarily expose themselves to situations of risk with a view to demonstrating their manhood.
