ABSTRACT
Objective: to determine the state of functional health and the quality of life in the biggest adults after the waterfall microsurgery.Method: was carried out a descriptive study, retrospective from January to June 2016 in the consultation of surgical risk of the Educational Surgical Clinical Hospital Miguel Enríquez, the universe is constituted by bigger 555 adults with diagnostic of senile waterfall and finally a sample of 118 patients was selected. He/she was carried out the geriatric comprehensive geriatric evaluation and preoperative evaluation, the following instruments were applied: Index of Lawton for functional evaluation, and the (SF-12) to measure quality of life, number of illnesses expressed by the Index of Charlson (abbreviated version), before the intervention, to the month and 3 months after the intervention.
Results: were a prevalence of women (68,1 %) between 70 and 79 years age (48,1 %), the Diabetes Mellitus (55,6 %) followed by the Arterial Hypertension (27,1 %) as more frequent chronic illnesses, of the affected Instrumental activities of daily life (IADI) was the realization of shopping (37,3 %).
Conclusions: with the surgical intervention it was possible to improve the functional capacities and the quality of life in the biggest Adults contributing to a better adaptation biopsicosocial of the same ones.
