Uveitis as an initial manifestation of ankylosing spondylitis. About a case

ABSTRACT

Uveitis occurs in 20-40 % of patients with ankylosing spondylitis and may precede joint involvement.
Objective: to present a case of association of uveitis with ankylosing spondylitis in its early stages.
Method: a case is presented that refers to the suspicion of spondyloarthropathy due to the recurrence of uveitis.
Conclusions: Uveitis as an initial manifestation of ankylosing spondylitis is not uncommon, and we must keep this in mind when we are actively involved in its diagnosis. A wealth of scientific evidence points to the need to raise clinical suspicion for early diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis; which requires, above all, the exclusion of this pathology in the presence of recurrent uveitis. Due to the invalidating nature of this nosological entity is important the early diagnosis, in order to mitigate or eliminate the sequelae in this disease, we hope that the case exposed contributes to this purpose.
