ABSTRACT
30 % of patients with Sjögren Syndrome have extraglandular manifestations, including musculoskeletal, neurological, cutaneous, gastrointestinal and renal manifestations; the latter have been, to a lesser extent, the researchers' focus of attention. Objective: to expose the most common renal manifestations of Sjögren's Syndrome. Development: during the period December 2016-February 2017, a documentary review of studies of the last 15 years was carried out. In the period January-March 2017, an exhaustive documentary review of studies of the last 50 years was carried out, Which included the following keywords "Sjögren's syndrome", "renal manifestations", "extraglandular manifestations". Articles included cohort studies, case reports, article reviews, prospective and retrospective studies, and were located in specialized databases such as Medline, Scielo and Science Direct. As a result of the search, 58 articles were collected, of which 20 were removed as they did not show the validity of their results, 10 were discarded since they did not reflect the criteria used for the interpretations and assertions made. Finally, 28 articles were selected. Conclusions: it is especially important to study renal manifestations, due to their highly insidious nature and the complications resulting from the progressive deterioration of renal function. In fact, nephropathy is usually subclinical and manifests as tubulopathies. Renal failure, especially severe one, has been occasionally described. Cases with tubular acidosis may be complicated by lithiasis or chronic hypokalemia. There may also be hypokalemia and, in extreme cases, hypokalemic periodic paralysis, along with an increased risk of kidney stones and osteomalacia. Other manifestations may be nephrogenic diabetes insipidus and glomerulonephritis. Contemporary studies related to the subject aim at forming a body of knowledge of great utility for general practitioners and specialists, who would benefit in their diagnostic and therapeutic work, with the understanding of this pathology and its manifestations, both glandular and extraglandular, to achieve The maximum benefit for those who suffer from them, thanks to a timely diagnosis and effective treatment; to which we hope this work will contribute.
