ABSTRACT
The years of work lost due to disability were an indicator built by the authors themselves and validated in 1998 for this purpose, which quantifies how many years of work life are lost by disability due to occupational risks. Estimating the years of work lost due to disability according to age and sex groups was the objective of this study. An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study of the workers who were screened for total disability in the Republic of Cuba in the period from the years 2008 to 2012 was realized. The universe of study consisted of all the workers who received a criterion of total disability. The increase in the retirement age entails an increase in years lost due to disability, mainly in the male sex; almost 11.7 years are lost for each worker declared invalid, causing human suffering and loss of production of the companies. Disability occurs more and more in the earliest ages of life, when society requires more of those workers.REFERENCES
