ABSTRACT
Introduction: The White Bata effect is of great importance in medical practice, since it leads to overestimate the degree or intensity of blood pressure figures, in Cuba its prevalence is not known. Objective: To determine the prevalence of White Bata effect in workers. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study. Universe: 105 workers at the Meliá Habana hotel. Variables: age, sex, obesity, diabetes mellitus, smoking, high blood pressure and white-coat effect, systolic and diastolic blood pressure. To summarize qualitative variables, percentages, mean and standard deviation were used for quantitative variables; To evaluate the relationship between qualitative variables chi2, we worked with a degree of statistical significance of 95%. Results: The prevalence of white coat effect was present in a third of the studied hypertensive patients, it was double in the male sex with respect to the female and more frequent in the longest lived. 52.4% of patients with hypertension were not controlled and of these 4 out of 10 had EBB. Conclusions: The prevalence of White Bata effect was high in this population, so it should be taken into account when evaluating the control of blood pressure.
