ABSTRACT

Objective: characterize the risk tobacco geriatric from the ceasing consultation.
Method: descriptive, traverse study, of a universe of 80 it was an active smoking bigger sample of 41 adults. It was used empiric methods; interviews open, questionnaire to stop to smoke as well as technical didactic and participative, revision of the individual clinical histories and of family health.
Results: The masculine sex, 51.2 % of the smoking old men prevailed they had ages understood between the 60 and 80 years of age, 78% possesses an increment of risk tobacco, the most frequent causes in this risk were the relaxation search, being anxious, depressed and alone, being represented by 29 of the old men in study that you/they smoke with more frequency in their homes and public places of its community, being the road of acquisition of the most common cigarettes in the stores of the state and street salespersons, it forms in which you/they acquire the cigarettes 61 %.
Conclusions: the difficulties are related with the insane lifestyle assumed by the old men and the unsatisfied demands in the daily life, dominated by different psychological modulators.
