ABSTRACT
Molluscum contagiosum is a viral infectious disease of the skin caused by a poxvirus. Multiple treatments have been used
for this infection with conflicting results. A new combination of topical application has been used with promising results,
combined dimethylsulfoxide with povidone iodine.
We report the case of a 14-month-old boy who presented MC lesions after the topical application of steroids in the bilateral
inguinal region. To treat it, a chemical solution of dimethylsulfoxide combined with iodopovidone was applied,
lesions remitted in three weeks. The combination of dimethyl sulfoxide and topically applied iodopovidone in the treatment
of MC in this case was successful.
