ABSTRACT
Introduction: giardiasis is an infectious disease of the intestine of universal distribution produced by a flagellated parasite, Giardia lamblia. Objective: to evaluate the results of duodenal intubation with propoline in patients with giardiasis who presented recurrence after treatment with oral synthetic antiparasitic agents. Method: an experimental research was carried out in the General Provincial Teaching Hospital "Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola ", in the period from January to March 2014 in 22 patients diagnosed with giardiasis that did not respond to conventional treatments and met the inclusion criteria proposed in the study. Results: giardiasis predominated in the female sex, prevailing ages between 21 and 30 years. A high percentage of patients presented an asymptomatic form of the infection and the most used previous treatment was tinidazole. 86,4% of the patients responded positively to the treatment. Conclusions: propoline therapy was useful in patients diagnosed with giardiasis who did not respond to usual medication treatments.
