ABSTRACT
Introduction. Cholelithiasis is one of the health problems affecting adults worldwide.
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the surgical procedure used in these patients. The
practice of this surgery involves a number of specific and important pathophysiological
changes. These are precisely the characteristics that differentiate it from the open
methods that require a very specialized anesthetic procedure. Methods. The universe
was made up of 981 patients who underwent cholecystectomy through laparoscopic
surgery. The sample was identified through 785/981 (80.0 %) subjects who received
total intravenous anesthesia, and received Midazolán as anesthetic premedication.
Results. In the analyzed series there was prevalence of the female sex; the most
represented age group was 50 - 69 years, in both sexes. The Physical State ASA II
was the most represented one. Arterial hypertension, ischemic cardiopathy, and
obesity were the most frequent personal antecedents. The most frequent complication
was arterial hypotension. With this procedure, there is a low incidence of fatal
complications, which improves the quality of the anesthesia used in the patients.
Conclusions. Intravenous total anesthesia in laparoscopic cholecystectomy provides
a suitable safety to the patient due to the low incidence of complications observed in
this study.
