ABSTRACT
Background: Dorothea E. Orem presents her self-care deficit nursing theory as a grand theory composted of three related theories: self-care theory, self-care deficit theory and nursing system theory. Objective: To support the use of Dorothea Orem's theory in the nursing management environment. Conclusion: This theory offers nursing professionals the necessary tools for a top-quality attention in any situation related to the health-illness binomial, either for the sick, for persons who are making decisions about their health, or for those who want to keep or modify their health risk conducts.
