Implementation of the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Specialty Program in Camagüey province

ABSTRACT
Basis: The 43rd edition of the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Specialty Program started on September 2016.Objective: characterizing the qualities of the Postgraduate Course Program of the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Specialty in Camagüey province.
Materials and Methods: it was conducted a study of qualitative systematic review, with historical descriptive qualitative information, in order to reconstruct the past in an objective way through the gathering, assessment, verification and synthesis of the existing evidence. It was used the documentary method based on the sources of the "Julio Antonio Mella" Provincial Library, the Carlos J. Finlay University of Medical Sciences Library, the Museum of Medicine of The San Juan de Dios Hospital and the museum of the house where Carlos J. Finlay was born.
Results: forty seven years of continuous postgraduate teaching since 1970 are highlighted. From 1968 to nowadays, 230 Cuban anesthesiologists, 19 anesthesiologists from the Latin American School and three financed students from Angola, Paraguay and Saint Kitts and Nevis have been trained. Programs contain guidance on the organization of teaching in each academic year, they are structured in a modular way and they reflect the results of improvement and updating in correspondence with advances in education from 1970 to nowadays. They provide assessment, collaboration and interaction in learning.
Conclusions: the 43 editions of the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Program are characterized by the advances in the educational system according to the growing complexity of the specialty and its responsibilities.
