ABSTRACT
The family constitutes a system which under chronic illness circumstances suffers drastical changes inside and outside. Family’s adaptation depends a lot on the illness’ special characteristics, illness stage, the patient’s life moment, his or her family place and the illness’ type and treatment. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that allows normal life spans in spite of the momentous shift in life style required to get the suffering under control. Sometimes there are periods of intensive medical and familial care because patient’s life could be in danger. Moreover the fear’s often present as to the possible complications, not only for him but for the family itself. That’s why this work is aimed to make known the strong impact and var-ied aspects to face this illness in the familial system
