ABSTRACT
Introduction. Tobacco abuse is a pandemic problem. It affects all social groups, recognizes no countries’ borders or gender, religion and age differences. It is associated to an important number of diseases that cause disability and death, which can be prevented. In order to strengthen the Health Services Model for Tobacco Control strategies, Mexico’s National Council Against Addictions has developed a project to perform benchmarking analysis in some clinics for smoking treatment.Objective. To perform benchmarking analysis in a representative group of clinics in order to set up successful practices that can be shared by other clinics in Mexico.
Methodology. Elaboration of a research document with open and closed questions, including the variables to be measured. Clinics’ chief officers will be interviewed; questions will be supplemented with a field research in order to highlight the best practices. Research results will be presented in a future article. Treatment effectiveness will be the main indicator.
Conclusions. This research constitutes an innovative work within the organizational change and development fields in health care, intended to support future projects in order to consolidate public, private and social substance abuse control facilities in Mexico.
