ABSTRACT
Background: there are insufficiencies in the statistical formation of the health professional that cause limitations in different tasks to be faced. Objective: to evaluate the feasibility of a pedagogical strategy of improvement for the development of statistics competencies in health professionals.
Methods: a pedagogical strategy was applied that culminated with a pedagogical pre-experiment in the "Efraín Benítez Popa" Medical Sciences Branch of Bayamo, during 2010-2015. Theoretical, empirical methods, the Delphi method and the mathematical method were used: the descriptive statistics with the absolute, percent and inferential frequencies were applied the Wilcoxon test.
Results: shortcomings were identified in the teachers on statistical didactics and the use of statistical packages, insufficiencies in the development of the methodological work and lack of postgraduate improvement actions, for which a pedagogical strategy was applied for the development of competences in this sense.
Conclusions: the pedagogical pre-experiment applied allowed to evaluate the strategy as feasible to solve the difficulties in the preparation of the teachers on the contents of statistics and its application. Furthermore, it was considered by the experts as pertinent and with adequate methodology.
