ABSTRACT
Family violence can occur in all strata of social life, it is showed in several ways and levels; it is an attempt against physical, emotional, or sexual integrity of family members. This study has the objective of evaluating the knowledge and attitude of the first level attention personnel of the Health University Program, of the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon in order to identify and understand the phenomenon of family violence. From the results found in our study, comparing them with other ones developed in health professionals, we observed there is a coincidence in the personnel ignorance about the methods of characterization and attention to family violence cases; joined to the fact that in the moment the health personnel want to provide some kind of attention or advice to the patients, it is restricted by the health system organization due to the implicit obligations of its professional activities; there is also a lack of identification and conduction protocols and a low legitimacy by the society of health personnel actions in these family violence cases. To all these are joined the problems of particular character they have when considering this kind of events as personal and private of their patients.
