ABSTRACT
Deficiencies in the folate intake are related to a great risk of cancer, cardiovascular diseases and defects in the neural tube. A way to estimate the folate intake is by using dietetic surveys, however, it has been demonstrated that the type of used dietetic survey influences the obtained data. The objective of this investigation was to analyze if the season of the year, when the surveys are done, could be another parameter to consider in the data analysis of folate intake. For this, 62 healthy voluntary women from 15 to 35 years old from Pueblo Nuevo Apodaca, Nuevo León were grouped. 12 domiciliary visits were done, 3 visits by season and dietetic surveys of 24-hours reminder were applied. The folate intake data were determined by using the nutritional program NUTRIS and the results were statistically compared through a variant analysis. Results of folate intake (mcg) by season were found, 289.3, 184.1, 308.0 and 268.0 in spring, summer, fall and winter respectivelly. In summer the folate intake is lesser than in the other seasons. This seasonal variation in the folate intake must be considered to apply the dietetic surveys in the epidemiological investigations.
