ABSTRACT
Pityriasis lichenoides represents a group of inflammatory skin disorders that include pityriasis lichenoides and varioliformis acuta (PLEVA), febrile ulceronecrotic Mucha-Habermann disease (a subtype of PLEVA), and pityriasis lichenoides chronica. PLEVA presents as an acute to subacute skin eruption of multiple, small, red papules that develop into polymorphic lesions with possible sequelae of hypo or hyperpigmentation and varicella-like scars. The pathogenic mechanism behind PLEVA is unclear. It seems to be triggered either by an infectious process, a lymphoproliferative etiology and/or an immune-complex-mediated vasculitis. We present a case of a 27 year old female with PLEVA confirmed by histology.
