ABSTRACT

Metaplastic carcinoma is a tumor with both epithelial and mesenchymal components, with malignant features. We are present a 85 year-old female, initially diagnosed with a squamous cell carcinoma in the right hypothenar region treated by excision. Six years later, the lesion recurred with involvement of the median and ulnar nerves and destruction and infiltration of soft tissues. The deep biopsy revealed a carcinosarcoma. This is an uncommon tumor requiring deep and wide excision, to identify the different components and to avoid recurrences.
