ABSTRACT
Introduction: psoriasis is one of the most frequent cutaneous diseases of universal distribution; is characterized by chronic inflammation of the skin, with typical erythematous lesions in deep red plaques form, covered by stratified scales, friable, dry, abundant, nacreous and infiltrated sheets. Objective: to evaluate the efficacy of homeopathic treatment in patients with psoriasis vulgaris.
Method: a randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted in the southern area of Ciego de Ávila province from June to December 2013. The 36 patients diagnosed during this period who met the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to study groups with homeopathic treatment and control with conventional allopathic treatment.
Results: the majority of the patients was female and aged over 41 years; the symptoms associated with psoriasis vulgaris were pruritus and burning. The disease progressed to improvement in both groups during treatment. There were no statistically significant differences between patients who received allopathic treatment and those treated with the homeopathic medicine and there were no cases of adverse reactions; at 6 months of treatment, 83,3% of the patients in the control group and 88,9 % of the experimental group presented signs of improvement.
Conclusions: homeopathic treatment was as effective as the conventional allopathic treatment for psoriasis vulgaris.
