Buccal mucosa lesions related to the use of dental prosthetics in edentulous

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The oral health debit side to be seen as component of the quality of life. The dentures use during long periods of time without they are changed periodically, it can generate pain and inestability during the mastication, factors that jointly with other, they can cause the development of lesions in the tissues that are in contact with the denture.Objective: To characterize the population with lesions in the oral mucous associated to the denture use in the Leonardo Fernandez Dental Clinic.
Material and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out in the understood period among October of 2014 until January of 2015 in the Leonardo Fernandez Dental Clinic of the municipality of Cienfuegos, developed in an universe constituted by 51 patients coinciding the same one with the sample conforming this way a study group that presented some lesion types for what was carried out the clinical exam to each patient.
Results: The lesion of more prevalence was the denture stomatitis with 83.33%, the biggest quantity of lesions were registered in the female sex with 74.07%, the denture stomatitis appeared with more frequency in patients that used dentures from 11 to 20 years (35.56%) and so much the adjusted dentures (but deteriorated) and the unadjusted ones caused the same quantity of lesions (50%).
Conclusions: The use of dentures is undoubtedly related with the appearance of lesions in the oral mucous.
