ABSTRACT

Background: the introduction of the contents of Herbal and Folk Medicine in the program of the discipline Preparation for Defense, offers therapeutic tools to be used in medical care in exceptional situations and disasters.
Objective: to design a methodological strategy for the integration of Herbal and Folk Medicine in the program of the discipline Preparation for Defense, in the medical career.
Methods: a developmental research was carried out at Villa Clara the University of Medical Sciences from September 2015 to May 2016. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive; And empirical ones: documentary analysis, survey of teachers and students, and mathematics for data percentage analysis.
Results: the objectives of the integration of Herbal and Folk Medicine and Preparation for Defense were not achieved with the implementation of the strategy prior to what was stipulated in Study Plan D, and although its contents are well structured, there is little time for therapeutic skills; the need to train the teaching staff and to elaborate complementary bibliography by the teachers was identified; the students recognize that the classes are good, but they lack more time for the practice of the contents, for which a methodological strategy was designed for the teaching of Herbal and Folk Medicine in the discipline Preparation for Defense.
Conclusions: it contains training actions for the teaching staff, and it is methodologically grounded. The specialists considered it appropriate because of its pertinence, viability and scientific-pedagogical updating.
