ABSTRACT
Introduction: Development of biomaterials in Cuba has been closely related to the progress achieved by the Center for Biomaterials of the University of Havana. One of the products advanced by this institution is the adhesive Tisuacryl®.Objective: Present the clinical evidence available about the use of the aforementioned tissue adhesive to treat skin and oral mucosa wounds.
Methods: Ten studies were conducted about the adhesive Tisuacryl® on a sample of 1 916 patients with skin and oral mucosa wounds who met the diagnostic criteria established for each study. All patients provided their written consent to participate in the research.
Results: Over 95% effectiveness was obtained in each one of the Tisuacryl® studies. No adverse events (infection, irritation, edema or pain) were observed.
Discussion: With the use of Tisuacryl® when deep suturing is not required patients' anxiety is reduced, for they receive a fast, painless, easy to apply treatment. The material does not need to be eliminated because it is reabsorbable. Use of Tisuacryl® is an obvious alternative to treat skin and oral mucosa wounds in medical and dental practice.
Conclusions: The clinical evidence summarized in this review points to the high clinical effectiveness of Tisuacryl®, confirming its usefulness as a safe alternative to treat skin and oral mucosa wounds in medical and dental practice.
