ABSTRACT
Introduction: Currently, research has focused on finding the
neuropsychological profile that distinguishes different subtypes of
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
Objective: The objective is to describe significant differences in
some neuropsychological processes: general level of awareness,
attention, memory, language, visuo-perception and executive
function between two different subtypes of MCI (multi-domain and
dysexecutive).
Methods: 37 patients with MCI of both genders from several
private practice heath services of Medellín (Colombia) were selected
(ages 40 to 83). Assessments neuropsychological included different
tests.
Results: The results showed significant differences between the
two subtypes of MCI: the subjects with multi-domain mild cognitive
impairment showed lower performance in visual perception, verbal
memory and language task, and, contrary to expectations, in executive
functions tasks.
Conclusion: These findings are relevant for the neuropsychological
intervention and the prevention of the cognitive decline.
