ABSTRACT
Introduction: obesity is a world health problem associated to the increasing of prevalence of hypertension. The frequency of hypertension and the behavior of the values of blood pressure in women assisted in overweight consultations are unknown.
Objective: to determine the behavior of hypertension in women assisted by overweight.
Methods: observational, descriptive and transversal study with 455 patients assisted in the Endocrinology Service at "Dr. Salvador Allende" hospital, from January, 2013 to december, 2015. Used variables: age, weight, size, corporal mass index, and waist perimeter, systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Media, maxim, minim, standard deviation, T tests and Pearson coefficient correlation were determined.
Results: most of the patients had obesity grade I and II (66, 4 %), and very increased waist perimeter (95,6 %). The frequency of hypertension was 35,6 %, media: age 36 years old, corporal mass index 35,2 ± 5,1 Kg/m
2, waist perimeter 103,9 ± 10,3 cm, systolic blood pressure de 121,1 ± 15,5 and diastolic 77,1 ± 10,2. The highest correlation was obtained between the corporal mass index and systolic blood pressure (r=0,3398).
Conclusions: Obesity prevails in women assisted at overweight consultation. The frequency of hypertension, associated to overweight is elevated.
