ABSTRACT
Benign metastasizing leiomyomatosis is a rare condition characterized by
tumors of histologically benign smooth muscle that affects middle-aged women
with a history of uterine leiomyomas. A case diagnosed with benign
metastasizing leiomyomatosis as well as elements of diagnosis, treatment and
outcome is presented. Thirty-eight years old female patient, who comes to our
center because she has had cough and a whitish expectoration for a month.
The chest radiograph revealed small pulmonary nodules spread to both fields,
and in the right chest wall. Some multiple nodules in the peritoneal cavity, and a
giant tumor mass in the uterus were observed in the abdominal ultrasound, but
the adnexa were not appreciable. A core biopsy of the right chest wall lesion
was made. Later, surgery with total hysterectomy and double oophorectomy
was performed. The anatomo-pathologic study showed that both pieces were a
benign metastasizing leiomyomatosis. The patient is treated with Tamoxifen
and she has had a good response to treatment. At present, she is in good
health.
