ABSTRACT
The causative agents of infectious illnesses constitute the most important type of
general biological risk in the work environment, which becomes especially obvious
in the healthcare institutions.
The main biological risks for infections that affect the health sanitary personnel are
shown, particularly the ones caused by pathogenic agents capable of being
transmitted by the blood and corporal liquids as well as the ways of preventing
them, among them, the use of gloves.
The importance of the implementation of the Standard/Universal Precautions in all
countries at all levels of the Health Systems is also analyzed.
