ABSTRACT

Objetive: To determinate the clinical characteristics of morbidity and mortality in obstetric patients admitted into the intensive care unit.
Material and Method: A retrospective, descriptive and observative study was made, in obstetric patients admitted into the intensive care unit of the Hospital General of Castellón, Spain, from January 2010 to June 2015. We determinate Maternal characteristics, aspects related to pregnancy, childbirth or puerperium, data related to the newborn and all the information associated with the hospital stay were evaluated, and finally, maternal mortality.
Results: A total of 34 women required admission to the ICU. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and obstetric hemorrhage were the main obstetrical reasons for admission. We record 16 patients with complications and, registered two maternal deaths.
Conclusions: The multiparous and without antenatal care patients required a higher rate of admission in the intensive care unit and a greater number of complications.
