The paradox of non-caloric sweeteners.

ABSTRACT
Doctors have to advice their patients about the use of non-caloric sweeteners as an adjuvant in overweight and diabetes management. This paper presents the review of the last five years of literature concerning non-caloric sweeteners. Epidemiologic studies report a bigger risk of diabetes and weight increase. The increase in use of non-caloric sweeteners is paralleled by a generalized tendency to obesity. In spite of the enormous quantity of information, the epidemiologic data has not been confirmed by randomized trials. There in not enough evidence to advice properly our patients. The wise word would recommend trying to use plain water to accompany our meals.
