ABSTRACT
Introduction: muscle manifestations in the rheumatic disease, include muscle weakness and atrophy. It has not been described previously that these signs may be linked to the abdominal wall constitutional backplane weakness that gives rise to inguinal hernias. Objective: to describe a case of a unilateral and direct inguinal hernia in a female patient with rheumatic disease, this is a rare presentation.
Discussion: inguinal hernia repair is a high frequency surgery worldwide which seeks to reduce the possibility of complications of hernia content (binding, choking, punching bags, amongst others), requiring emergency interventions associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The peculiarity of the case described here is that the type of inguinal hernia (direct, indirect and recurrent), is associated with sex. Patients with direct inguinal hernia are usually male.
Conclusions: currently, to meet fully the role of provide quality health care is to be based on the recognition that the coexistence of two clinical situations in patients with rheumatic disease is nos rare at all, it is then necessary to effectively develop surveillance on those diseases and processes with possible association with thi, in order to provide scientific evidence in this direction. This article has described a case of a unilateral and direct inguinal hernia in a female patient with rheumatic disease, and management made in the prevention of complications related to anesthethic-surgical risk of these patients. This case opens paths to deeper investigation in future research arising from the question: Are rare presentations of inguinal hernias associated with rheumatic disease?
