ABSTRACT
Introduction: guiding teachers and learners about the different ways to develop meaningful learning is not an easy task. In particular, the challenge of developing critical thinking and the ability to transfer clinical knowledge requires a greater share of teacher creativity. In this, the study of published clinical cases appears to be very helpful. Objective: to show how can be created both a problem from a published clinical case, supported on problem-based learning, and an appropriate instrument to evaluate the development of effective clinical reasoning processes.
Development: a didactic unit of the subject Rheumatology was developed with the objective to develop abilities for the diagnosis of Behcet's syndrome.
Conclusions: a clinical-teaching experience has been documented, which becomes a guiding strategy to deploy critical thinking and the ability to understand the complexity of a clinical case in students; promoting the development of effective clinical reasoning processes and their evaluation through the application of an instrument, consisting of learning objectives, open-ended questions and quantitative and qualitative evaluation rubrics. It has contributed decisively to ascertaining the significant competences achieved by students.
