ABSTRACT
Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common cancer of the skin; some of these tumors have an aggressive behavior and can lead to metastasis and local recurrences. The carcinomas with this behavior have been termed «high-risk», but the definition and criteria are not well established and there is no consensus in the different guidelines worldwide. When a high-risk tumor is diagnosed, an aggressive approach and treatment are required, seeking higher rates of complete remission and less recurrences. This review seeks to standardize the different definitions of «high-risk» and actualize concepts about the correct diagnostic approach and treatment in this type of tumors.
