ABSTRACT
Objective: to evaluate the urinary symptomatology in patients
with prostatic hyperplasia before and after an educational
intervention aimed to change dietary habits.
Methods:
quasi-experimental study, 136 family medicine patients of
external consultation were included.
The urinary symptoms were evaluated
with the International Prostate Symptom
Score (ipss) instrument, before
and after an educational intervention
aimed to change dietary habits. The t of
Student test was used for the analysis of
the results.
Results: the general average
to apply the ipss instrument before the
educational intervention was 16.13,
while the average after such intervention
was 11.73, this decrease showed
improvement in prostatic symptoms
(p‹0.05).
Conclusions: a decrease in
the urinary symptomatology of patients

after receiving educational intervention
aimed to change dietary habits.
