ABSTRACT
Introduction: during the last years, a decrease in the notification of patients with syphilis and an increase in the acquired immunodeficiency virus (HIV/AIDS) has been observed worldwide.
Objectives: describe their behavior and characterize compliance with certain program indicators.
Method: in the present investigation a descriptive study was carried out, which included all the people with a diagnosis of syphilis reported in the municipality Guisa, in the period from 2011 to 2014.
Results: the highest incidence rate was reported in the year 2013. The most affected age groups were those aged between 15-24 and 25-34 years. The disease was more frequent in men. The highest incidence rate was reported in the urban area, despite a gradual decrease in incidence.
Conclusions: the highest incidence rate was reported in the years 2015 and 2016 in the age groups between 15-24 and 25-34 years. The disease was more frequent during the years studied in men with greater number of cases in the urban area.
