ABSTRACT
The umbilical cord is the structure that in the intrauterine life is responsible for the metabolic exchange between the
maternal placenta and the fetus, after delivery this conduit connects and cuts leaving a remnant that is detached
between the 5th and 15th day of life. We report the case of a 3-month-old infant with delayed umbilical cord fall due
to inadequate care and the existence of a congenital malformation as a consequence of failure of the involution of the
omphalomesenteric duct. In conclusion, physicians should be alert to a newborn with a late umbilical cord fall because
the diagnosed omphalomesenteric duct malformations are susceptible to surgical correction.
