ABSTRACT
Objective: To validate the guiding notebook for the theoretical-practical classes and the seminars of Medical Genetics in the Latin American School of Medicine.Methods: A pedagogical intervention study was carried out. The sample was made up of six professors of the teaching department and 324 students of the second year of the Medicine Career of Havana, Cuba during the academic year 2013-2014. The implementation took into account: the execution of methodological workshops, the assignment of tasks to the students and the evaluation of the teaching-learning process, measuring the usefulness of the guiding notebook in the level of satisfaction of its use and the contribution to the understanding of knowledge; for the processing of results, empirical and mathematical methods were used.
Results: According to frequent evaluations, the results were found to be satisfactory. It was found that most of the variables evaluated were fulfilled in 100% of the observations made; 96% of the students considered that the guiding notebook contributed to the achievement of better grades. More than 90% of the students considered that the theoretical summary and exercises of the orientation of the activity were very useful. The qualifiers most assigned to the notebook were instructive and affordable.
Conclusions: It was verified that the guiding notebook favors students’ understanding and interest in studying the subject and contributes to their future professional development.
