ABSTRACT
Introduction: assistance to the terminal ill patient and the application of cares in the “dying process” are some of the most complicated and difficult aspects which families and health professionals face, mainly, nurses, because of their most direct and individualized care with these patients.Methods: preliminary results of a study were presented to explore the level of knowledge that nurses who work in the Health Basic Team in Nueva Paz have about palliative cares in patients in terminal stage performed in 2014 and 2015. The investigation has a description of some socio demographic variables of nurses and the results of the application test about competence and practice applied to identify the learning necessities in this topic.
Results: more of the third fourth part belonged to the 40 and 49 age group and with technical qualification. There is a predominance of more than 15 years of working experience and 10 years, working in the Family Doctors and Nurses Program . Most of the half of the quantity of nurses have inadequate knowledge about the topic.
Conclusions: there are insufficient knowledge about palliative cares in patients in terminal stage in Primary Health Care, They need educative intervention.
